Richard Bates - Managing Director

Richard is part of the fifth generation of the Bates family who have been present on the River Thames for over 100 years. Richard and David de Vere started Bates Wharf Marine Sales in 1991 after having been together with their previous employers Penton Hook Marine Sales since 1985. Richard is also the Managing Director of W.Bates & Son marina operators and famous for building the classic Bates Starcraft, for details of the Starcraft owners club visit www.bates-starcraft.co.uk

David DeVere - Joint Managing and Financial Director

David entered the marine industry in 1972 working for Westerly Marine a yacht manufacturer on the South Coast. His past experience includes one of the first ever importers of American power boats (Sea Ray) and managing the yacht racing division of a South Coast manufacturer. Today David is primarily responsible for all the financial aspects of Bates Wharf Chertsey and Southern.

Claire Dickson - Office Manager/Sales

Claire started with Bates Wharf Chertsey in 1999 and oversees the running of the office from invoicing to the Website. Specialises in the sales of Maxum power boats. Her other responsibilities include all aspects of marketing.

Tony Humphrey - Sales Executive

Tony has a long history in power boat sales and joined our company in 2002 after having worked for Windermere Aquatic for over 15 years (main Bayliner boat importers) where he gained extensive experience in American power boats. He now in addition to sales, oversees the after sales service for Bates Wharf Chertsey.

Dan Pike - Aftersales/Boat Prep

Dan started his career with Kings Marine (Marine Engineers), and in 1999 joined the Bates team as he wanted to expand his knowledge from engines alone to more involvement in boat selling and preparation side. Dan is in charge of pre delivery inspections and the preparation and presentation of all boats prior to handover to customers.

Jamie Corbould

Jamie is at the start of his career in the marine industry and is learning all aspects of boat preparation under the guidance of Dan.

Sue Bradshaw - Office Manager

Sue runs the marina office and is responsible for the day to day management of all marina accounts and marina berth sales reception

John Lapworth - Marina Manager

John has been with W. Bates & Son for over 30 years and is therefore a well known face to all our berth holders past and present. John is in charge of the running and presentation of the marina and also works the crane. In the old days he used to assist with the manufacture of the Bates Starcraft and Bates Astrals.

Margaret Blay

Margaret assists John in the day to day running of the marina and craneage and has worked for W. Bates & Son for 24 years.

Bates Wharf (Southern)

Freddie de Vere – Managing Director

Freddie has been in the boating industry for twenty years, starting his career in Brighton Marina. Freddie joined the Bates Wharf partnership in 1999 offering the company a coastal option and progressing into the sail boat market now as a leading Beneteau dealer.

Richard Herbert – Sales Manager

In 2004 Bates Wharf Southern had the great opportunity of prizing Richard away from the mundane world of surveying to achieve his boyhood dream of working in the Marine industry so not only working in sales but to give full support to the hobby he loves.
