The CooperS650 is a special and unique boat. It is a combination of a fast 20-foot sailboat with the comfort of 6-8 available seats and a very stable boat. The sailing specifications are designed by Van Pethegem & Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) and Cooper Studio has designed the layout of the boat.
Properties of the CooperS650 sailboat
The design is based on the Mini Transat boats that are used for ocean racing. The led bulb keel is retractable so the draft can vary between 85cm and 145cm. The keel-lifting system is integrated in the cockpit design so the draft is easily adjustable. The boat is equipped with double rudders for good steering and shallow draft sailing. Another advantage: you can run dry, or put the CooperS650 on shore at the rudders and on the keel without cradle!
Due to the design of the wide hull shape, the boat is very stable and fast at reaching courses with planning capacities.
The construction of the CooperS650 is very progressive. The hull is build with a special vacuum system and only vinylester resin is used. This gives a high stiffness at a light weight for high performance. The two main beams are built in carbon to take care of the great forces at a low weight as well.
The CooperS650 daysailor standard equipment
Standard the boat is equipped with a full-battened mainsail, a jib and a gennaker from Doyle Sails.
As an option you can choose for pentex of carbon sails. Because the boat sails without a backstay, the Seldén mast caries wide spreaders and is stiff enough to carry the strength of the high roach mainsail with a “Fat Head” top. The retractable carbon gennaker boom is ideal for getting the furling gennaker easy up and in the right position to pushing the boat to planing. Ronstan and Wichard supply all deck gear. The propulsion is done through an outboard that can be fitted in an engine box in the cockpit. Cooper advises to use an electric engine and this can be stored in the cockpit lockers. A petrol engine can be stowed in a lying position under the aft beam. 3 to 6 Hp is recommended. During sailing the engine box can be closed with a unique closing system. A closing block is fitted in the box whereby the cockpit is kept dry by a sucking system in this block. The hull is flush on the outside through this block.
The CooperS650 sailboat has many extra options possible like, for example, a teak deck, a teak cockpit floor, the colour of hull and interior. Unique is the choice of carbon for the helm, beams and the water edge around the cockpit. Of course is a carbon mast possible for extra performance.
Cooper supplies a 2 year full warranty and CE certification.
